Getting out of education and getting a job......( at least temporarily)

At the end of the summer I, like many eighteen year-olds, I had A -levels results day. I was expecting to get into Lougborough University, but I missed out on the grades. I needed AAB (across Maths, Physics and Economics). In the end I got ABC (in Economics, Maths and Physics respectively). I missing out on a much needed B in Physics by only 2 marks, but no one will ever care now.
This meant I had to go into the world of clearing! I'm lucky in the fact that I am able to remove emotion at times of stress and just get on with what needs to be done. This allowed me to stay relatively calm in clearing while others were crying around me.
The way clearing works, is you call up uni after uni and you sell yourself and your results, simply trying to get an offer. With my A in Economics, and a love of studying the subject I always has this as a strong second choice of study. With the help of friends' phones and my own phone I talked to a number of universities about both Physics and Economics. It was great to get interest from Surrey and against other offers it stood out for me. I spent over 3 intense and at times emotional hours but was sure in the end Surrey was the one for me - great Uni and a great sandwich course.
But this would not be a blog about my gap year if I went to university straight away. I had decided before results day that I wanted a year out to give cycling 100% for a year.
So the following day I asked Surrey if I could have the place for the 2018 intake, and hoped they would accommodate. They were very understanding, which I am very grateful for.
After a few stressful days, I started to relax, starting to think about going on holiday and my last few races of the year.
Just before I went away on holiday I got a phone call from Neil and Azeliea, who own and run the shop Cycle Right asking what my plans were for the following year, and if I would like to have the Saturday boy job. I took them up on the offer and will be working for them until the New Year. Then I will go away to Calpe, Spain for 2 months................but more to come on that later.
